the ritual Reframe

Privacy

What Reframe stores, where it lives, and what we will never do — in plain language.

Guided practices and optional AI

The four guided practice tools save only when you choose Save. Up to 100 practices are kept in this browser, not synced to your account. You can reopen or delete them in the practice workspace. Clearing browser storage removes them. Other people using this browser may see them. Unsaved edits and AI replies disappear when you leave.

AI help is optional and requires sign-in. No entry goes to an AI provider automatically. Before each request you can select, preview, edit, and redact the exact text, then consent and send. That text, the exercise type, and our instructions pass through The Ritual to OpenRouter and its model provider. We request providers that do not retain or train on this content; this is a routing policy, not a promise of end-to-end encryption or exemption from provider policies. Do not include names or details you do not want processed externally.

Our application does not save AI prompts or responses in your account or intentionally write them to logs. For request limits, our Redis service keeps an obscured account identifier and daily counts, with a one-day expiry; no exercise text is stored there. Hosting services may retain technical request metadata. Stopping a request cannot recall information already sent. These tools do not monitor crises and AI suggestions may be inaccurate.

What’s stored on this device

Your thought records and your daily mood log are saved right here on your device, in this browser. You can use the whole of Reframe this way — write thought records, log your mood, read the lessons, and get support — without ever making an account.

A thought record holds what you write as you work through it: the situation, the thought that came up and how strongly you believed it, the feeling and how strong it was, any thinking patterns you picked, the evidence for and against, a more balanced thought, and your re-rated feeling at the end. A mood entry holds the day, your 0–100 rating, and an optional short note. That’s all of it.

What’s stored on our server

You only have a server-stored copy if you create an account. An account exists for one reason: to keep your thought records and mood log in sync across your devices. When you have one, our server holds:

  • your email address
  • a scrambled (hashed) version of your password — never the password itself
  • your thought records (the fields described above)
  • your mood log (date, rating, and any note)
  • a record of the times you sign in — including the device and network address you signed in from — so we can keep you signed in

This describes account storage; optional AI processing is explained above. Reframe shares one account with the other apps at theritual.ai, so signing in once carries across them. Your data lives in a Postgres database hosted by Neon, a database company we use to run the server.

No trackers

There are no ad trackers in Reframe, and no third-party analytics. We don’t sell your data or share it for advertising.

The app contacts our server for account features, sync, and optional AI assistance. If you choose AI assistance and consent to sending the previewed text, our server forwards that text to OpenRouter and a model provider as described above. Self-guided practice does not require sending your practice notes.

How your data is protected

Your data is encrypted while it travels to the server and while it sits in the database. Your password is stored only as a scrambled hash, so even we can’t read it.

Here’s the honest tradeoff: the database is not end-to-end encrypted. That means we — the people who run the server — could technically open and read the thought records stored there. We don’t, and the account is optional precisely so this stays your choice. If you’d rather keep everything off the server, use the self-guided tools without an account or AI assistance.

Managing or deleting your account

Your account is shared across the apps at theritual.ai, so you manage and delete it in one place — the hub. There’s no separate account screen inside Reframe.

When you delete your account from the hub, we immediately and permanently remove every record tied to it from our server — your account, your sign-in sessions, your thought records, and your mood log, across every app that shares the account. It can’t be undone.

Anything saved on this device stays here until you clear it yourself, in the app or in your browser’s storage.
